National Parks 001 – Arches

Arches NP is one of our favorite stops along the desert tour. Its proximity to Canyonlands NP coupled with the differences in their geologic structures are a great reminder of how exciting that barren landscape can be.

Double Arch is the tallest (112 ft/34 m) and second-longest (144 ft/44 m) arch in the Arches National Park. It was formed differently from most of the arches in the park. It is what is known as a pothole arch, formed by water erosion from above rather than more typical erosion from the side. Double Arch is iconic. It makes for a very recognizable way to kick off the National Park series.
